What happens when you get together with other creatives on social media (in this case, Instagram) to make a mix-tape? I know! You get an amazingly eclectic and wildly entertaining musical lineup that will expand your horizons and connect you with your creative peers on a deeper level. After all, understanding what sounds and lyrics work to pump up and enliven fellow creatives of various personalities and life paths is a terrific way to learn more about who they are and what keeps them moving forward. Maybe, through sharing these personal insights, we find something new that resonates within us as well and grow in our connections with friends.
Recently, I had a number of bad days that brought me way down emotionally. Sharing a bit about what I had going on with the creative community that I engage with regularly over on Instagram, I immediately found an enormous amount of support there. People reached out to me with words of advice, support, and understanding. As someone who has struggled with the feelings of isolation that comes with depression and anxiety, this really meant the world to me! Creatives of all types often feel quite alone. This is just a reality for many that has led to self-healing through artistic expression.
I have found that being more open about such experiences actually helps to release those self defeating thought streams that tend to come from an attack of anxiety. Sharing my experience with other creatives brought me back to a place of connection, as they offered me understanding and upliftment. This, in turn, led me to propose a mix-tape collaboration featuring a wide variety of feel good music – according to individual tastes. My friends on Instagram once again came through with their positive and supportive thoughts – suggesting a good number of songs taken from a wide assortment of genres. I asked and they answered – on the list below you will find what I and they would put onto a list for the perfect feel good mix-tape.
Here’s the post I made that began this collaboration:

“My tranquility jam is listening to one of those long thunderstorm tracks. I have one in particular that I listen to when I need to block out sounds around me so that I can concentrate on a project. It’s peaceful, practical, and multifaceted.”

“Some reason Heart Beat Song by Kelly Clarkson gets me pumped every time I hear it. Other feel-good tunes for me are: Stick Shifts and Safety Belts by Cake (I think that’s the name of the song) They can’t Take That Away sung by Frank Sinatra, The Sweater Song by Weezer for some reason makes me happy. Jump, Wail and jive by Brian Seizer Orchestra, Thank you by Dido (the original version not the one with Eminem) Nobody’s Fool by Avril Lavigne. You Don’t Own Me the original version by Leslie Gore. I’m sure I can think of more later, but that’s what I have for now.”

The nature of this playlist insists on the addition of James Brown’s famous I Got You / I Feel Good song. So, I end this list by summing up the Feel Good Mix Tape Vibe with this great, spirit lifting tune that fully embodies the idea of using music to feel alive and in sync with higher emotions. Enjoy!
