We have a spook season tradition in our house. Every October we like to watch the Original Halloween movie (usually parts 1 and 2, together, since they are a continuation). I’m sure many others do this as well, as these movies are iconic in the horror film genre.
This last October, we had trouble finding the original Halloween movie on any streaming service. We wanted to stream the movie, rather than purchase it, because we actually already own at least two copies of the DVD and have it backed up on a data disc as well. Problem was, we had recently moved across states and the entirety of our movie collection was packed away in a shipping container. Although we have a digital movie collection on VUDU, this particular movie was not backed up there.
Given that we really didn’t want to purchase the DVD – again – and the fact that I quite enjoy watching a variety of horror genre classics and new releases during the Halloween season, we instead chose to find the best streaming option that would provide a good amount of choices in this genre.
We soon decided to give Shudder a try, as this streaming channel focuses solely on entertainment within the horror, thriller, and suspense genres. And, it was also the only streaming service we could find at the time that offered the first Halloween movie. Beyond this, as they note on their website, they have a fast growing selection of exclusive new releases and genre-defining classics, uncut and ad-free.
The subscription service I signed up for was only $4.99 a month and works as an add on to my Amazon Prime subscription, which is paid annually. For a dollar less a month, Shudder does offer an annual subscription as well – and you can sign up via the Shudder website. They also offer a seven day free trial.
Economically speaking, this subscription service for horror and suspense entertainment was the best deal for what I was looking for since that five dollars was actually buying unlimited streaming of all the entertainment features the channel had to offer for an entire month. I would’ve paid double that if I had chosen to purchase the DVD once more and then I would’ve only had access to that one movie, which I already owned. So, this just made sense for what I was looking for. After trying them out, I found that I liked the variety of content so well that I ultimately continued my subscription. So, for fans of these related genres, I do recommend the Shudder streaming service.
Since getting the Shudder add on, I’ve enjoyed a number of horror and suspense classics as well as several newer films in these genres. See my post about a wonderful short horror Documentary I saw here that is exclusive to Shudder. Below is a list of some of the other features I’ve watched and enjoyed via Shudder. Take a look.
Please see the following links to view what is currently available to stream via Shudder:
They also have a continuous stream of content, dubbed Shudder TV.
Also, you can see sneak peaks from Shudder over on their YouTube page.
So, have you tried this streaming service? What do you think about it? Also, have you seen any of the movies listed above? If so, which ones did you love or hate?
